welcome to the East Whittier City School District Parent tutorial for the smarter balanced assessment Consortium also known ask back this year all of our elementary students in grades 3 through 5 and middle school students in grades six through eight will be participating ask back tests for language arts and math are completely online California Common Core State Standards and aspec when's our gear to prepare our students for college rigor and career Readiness by setting higher order thinking expectations while using technology as a tool your child will have ample practice at school to become familiar with the testing format under the guidance of their teachers we feel it is imperative that our parents also familiarize themselves with the practice test prior to the testing window that begins in April so that you may help your child walk through the test practices set a reveal to the Public Public we highly encourage you to take some time out of your day to review the practice test with your child at home exposure your child has to practice test the better  let's get started these first two steps you've already done to find this screencast step go to our district website which is e w csd.org then click on the Red Seal labeled Common Core ready you will also find this for seal on each of our school websites to learn more about the for the purpose of this screencast which is focusing on the S back practice test we are going to scroll down to the green box labeled practice and training test click on the green box  if you stuff that can be a bit confusing to get to the right test but with some practice you will easily navigate through this quick on practicing training test on the right side of the screen that will take you to the S back portal here it will see a number of different but for the purposes of this video we would like to direct you to the green student interface practice and training test button on the bottom right side of the page when you click on this box it will take you to a student login page yes so let's go ahead and click on sign it  the spring does to the page our students will see to confirm that they are the actual test at this what we have just asked for let's click yes start my test at the bottom of the page  the next page is very helpful for first timers and we highly recommend you take some time to look over the format and the tools available  slow down the inside of the window to find a lot of information about the tools and rules of a test  once you have done that you are ready to begin the test  quick on the AP Chem test now button and the first question will appear  there are only knife questions on this test but each one will have a different mode in which to provide answers fast clicking on an answer  clicking on numbers to form an answer dragging and dropping answers checking on boxes drawing graphs clicking on multiple boxes you will notice that some of these tasks can be quite tricky that is why we will be providing practice at school and you can provide practice at home as we will be taking the test beginning in the latter part of April the test or not timed and have many tools built-in that should be a 8 our students to making careful choices and developing strong test taking strategies practice our students have the better they will be able to navigate to the test and focus on the content  while our students participated in the field test last year this is the first year we will receive Moore's from the S back test based on field test and the experience of other states we are preparing to see a lower proficiency rate than on the 2013 CST which was the last year the CST was administered in language arts and math they are very different this chart provides a prediction and aspects scores compared to CST scores  what that means for our schools is that we use the first year of data as a new Baseline and expect to see growth each year here after we are so proud of her students and teachers for making the ships demanded by the California Common Core State Standards we thank you for the time you have spent participating in school meetings learning about the common
