Welcome to 2021-2022 School Year

July 19, 2021

Dear EWCSD families-

As we prepare to open our campuses and classrooms for the 2021-2022 school year, we hope that you and your family have found time to rest this summer. We are so incredibly grateful to our wonderfully supportive EWCSD community. Your support, patience, and collaborative spirit put our District in the unique position to re-open our doors to students as early as March 1st. We would not have accomplished that milestone if it were not for our phenomenal families and dedicated staff. We cannot wait to see our students and families on August 10th, whether it is In-Person, our Home School Program (HSP), or our new 3rd-5th grade Virtual Learning Academy (VLA). We have been busy making plans for a safe opening of a new school year.

Even though our students demonstrated inspiring levels of grit, perseverance, and resilience, we are making preparations to provide the much-needed support our students will be looking for as we transition back to a typical school year. To meet those needs, we have added ten Intervention Specialists and ten Instructional Assistants to support our elementary mathematics program and six Teachers on Special Assignments to support English and mathematics at the middle schools. We have also been fortunate to add two more School Social Workers to continue our focus on providing Social Emotional Learning (SEL) support to our students.

Finally, to ensure that our classrooms and campuses are clean, safe, and welcoming, we hired sixteen
additional Custodians and two additional Grounds Crew members to our team. On Thursday, July 29th, at
6 p.m., we will be holding another Town Hall to give you the latest information about what you should expect to see in our schools this year. The flyer and login information will be sent directly to families and shared via our social media sites.

Ensuring that ALL 8,300 of our students are prepared for success in high school and beyond is our ultimate goal in the East Whittier City School District. Our dedicated support staff, teachers, administrators, and Board of Education work tirelessly day in and day out to achieve our vision of “Opening the Door to Every Child’s Future.”

Thank you for all you do as our valued members of the EWCSD community to make our District a special place for children.
