Superintendent's Office

It is with an enormous sense of pride that I join the East Whittier City School District as your Superintendent. I have had the opportunity to visit each of the sites prior to Summer Vacation.  The pride, enthusiasm and student centered thinking I have experienced first-hand has been heart-warming.  The close knit family feel that permeates the schools and District was absolutely palpable.  After having been in two very large Districts serving close to 50,000 students each, it will be nice to go back to a District similar to where I started and develop strong relationships and continue that sense of community that is so evident in all we do in EWCSD.

As I am sure you have read, I grew up attending the Lowell Joint School District then La Habra High School.  I attended FJC (now Fullerton College), CSUF and CSULB.  My career began as a 4th and 5th grade teacher in the Westminster School District.  I have also served as a Middle School Teacher on Special Assignment, an Assistant Principal in Middle School and High School, a Principal at Elementary, Middle and High School and most recently as an Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction.  Each of these experiences has been rewarding in their own ways, but becoming a part of East Whittier is a dream come true.  Our core belief of “Opening the Door to Every Child’s Future” has been a lifelong passion of mine.

Our collective goal for 17-18 is to continue to ensure that we place a high premium on our close family feel.  Relationships, trust and transparency are critical foundational elements that we must continue to embrace in everything that we do.  We want to continue all of the tremendous programs we already have in place while still looking to the future to see what additional programs we can offer to prepare our students to be 21st Century Learners who are well-versed in Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration and Communication.  Continually looking at all we do to ensure we are living our motto of “Opening the Door for Every Child’s Future” will be the lens from which we operate.

In addition to our traditional forums to gather parent and community feedback such as PTA, DELAC and LCAP meetings we will be holding a series of Town Hall Meetings to hear all of the great ideas our students, parents, staff and community have to continue to make East Whittier City School District standout as an exemplary district!

Welcome to another great year in East Whittier!
